Open Enrollment- July 8, 2016

The Bay Area Systems-Centered Training Group, led by Susan Gantt, Ph.D, (see bio below) has been ongoing since 1998. We are offering open enrollment in order to introduce this remarkable Method which is based on Systems Theory. This is “training,” in an experiential, personal group context, which allows exploration into deeper aspects of Phases of Group Development.

New Membership Openings for Friday Trainings

Begin Friday May 6  9am-5pm, at Fort Mason, San Francisco

(See all dates, location, and cost for 2016 below).

The Friday trainings are designed to give a range of learning structures in order to explore the Theory of Living Human Systems and its application in System Centered Therapy Groups. The methods can be applied in Psychotherapy with Individuals and Couples, as well as in Organizational and Educational environments.

Friday Morning Training Formats- 9am-12:30

SCT Theory- Learn and use SCT Methods and interventions, ie subgrouping and exploration, while developing more efficient communication patterns within an experiential format.

Leadership- You may bring your personal challenges as a Therapist, Organizational Leader or member, or any other context where you are not achieving satisfying results, and learn reliable methods to change the results. Members are encouraged to broaden their knowledge and skills in order to be more effective leaders in their personal and work life.

Consultation & Group Leader Practice: Members have the opportunity to participate in a one-on-one SCT Consultant or Consultee experience while being observed by the group. Members are encouraged to practice utilizing their SCT skills ie, leading group, working with a couple or family, your personal challenges in taking on challenging Roles such as Therapist, Intern, Student, Organizational/Educational Leader, Supervisor, etc. In this unique, supportive structure your will learn how to observe your behavior, and how to maintain your Functional Professional Role, so that you will be able to help clients, colleaques, students, etc regain their Functional Roles by understanding what is driving or restraining their and our actions for a more effective result.

Afternoon Experiential Group

Use and practice skills, ie sub-grouping to explore phases of development, old survival roles/ patterns, and group dynamics. The afternoon training is a unique opportunity to work with other experienced members using SCT methodology to enhance personal and professional skills.

Thursday Afternoon Training

Basic SCT Skills Training Learn a new SCT Protocol for Systematically undoing differences, each Thursday.

Subgrouping Learn the methods and how to apply them in a group setting. Explore and experience Group Dynamics using the SCT Methods.

Forcefield: A method for collecting data on the Driving and Restraining behaviors at the end of your group experience. Since SCT is Theory Driven, the group will also develop hypotheses about Group Phases and Dynamics.

SCT- Systems Centered Training

While family therapy took up systems thinking in the 1950’s, it wasn’t until the 1980s that group therapy seriously began to apply systems theory to group life. Yvonne Agazarian founded SCTRI, and made it the core of her life’s work. At theSystems Centered Research and Training Institute Yvonne developed her theory, and began to train therapists, organizational psychologists and educators. SCT has been honored by the American Group Psychotherapy Society as a major contribution in changing the way we develop group dynamics.

All Training Groups are led by Susan P. Gantt, Ph.D., ABPP, CGP, DFAGPA, FAPA, a psychologist in private practice in Atlanta and is the Director of the Systems-Centered Training and Research Institute. Susan was recognized with the 2010 Award for Outstanding Contributions in Education and Training in the Field of Group Psychotherapy by the National Registry of Certified Group Psychotherapists and was awarded the 2011 Alonso Award for Excellence in Psychodynamic Group Psychotherapy by the Group Psychotherapy Foundation.
